Vernazzola Waterfront

We were commissioned by the mayor of Genoa to revitalize the coastal neighborhood of Vernazzola, a medieval fishing village consumed by the city of Genoa, Italy.  The narrow coastal strip had become significantly degraded due to storm surges and to the general disorganization of fishing boats, poorly defined public spaces, and lack of amenities.  Our design intent was to recapture and celebrate the small public piazza, and connect it to the adjacent alleyways and beaches through a sinuous and fluid promenade with beach access.
